Cloud TV

What is cloud TV?

Cloud TV brings TV, video, audio, and endless data to you online.
The Service and content providers store their data on dedicated servers; the programmes are then streamed to any device with an Internet connection and an Internet browser, including the New Age smart TVs (can connect to the Internet without a dongle).
The concept gives you freedom from cable and DTH operators, their tantrums and the inflated subscription fees. With Cloud TV, you don’t need to install additional equipments like dish antennas or satellite receivers either. Moreover, the variety is endless – there are over 2,500 channels already available from all over the world! Could you ask for anything more?
Q: Will Cloud TV trigger local TV’s demise?
Cloud TV will have a great impact on local TV, DTH, and cable TV networks, just like any other significant progression in technology that has the prime advantage, which is cost saving. By moving operations into the cloud, it has already prompted Sony, Apple and Google, who are all geared up to “cloud us”. But local TV, DTH and cable may not die overnight.
It will gradually faze out or will ingeniously blend their operations with the cloud. For e.g., when DTH operators came in aggressively, cable operators started distributing set-top boxes to extend the number of channels and provide digital content.
Smart TVs are smartly taking over the set-top boxes, and soon DTH will also wane away. And for the rest who don’t have a smart TV will go for a set-top box with an Ethernet connection which can make any TV smarter. The writing is all over the cyber space, but the entire transition might take 5-10 years and is closely tied with the Broadband roll-out in the country.
